If you want to do it nicely then strip off clear coat with sand paper and spray paint then apply clear coat to protect the strips. and wet sand then buff out with polishing compound. Also another thing to think about is different type of paints react differently when put togther. For example enamel color coat with lacquer clear coat is big NO NO.
