Raceway pond - Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raceway_pond
A raceway pond is a shallow artificial pond used in the cultivation of algae . The pond is divided into a rectangular grid, with each rectangle containing one channel in the shape of an oval, like an automotive raceway circuit. From above, many ponds look like a maze. Each rectangle contains a paddle wheel to make the water flow continuously around the circuit.

Another limitation compared to ponds is the release of effluent. While ponds largely process wastes within the culture systems, raceways, with their low retention times, do not. Effluent releases from raceways are a larger consideration than they are for ponds. Raceway Publications. Fish Raceway or Tank (pdf) In-Pond Raceways (pdf)

The raceway area is generally about 3%–5% of pond size, but it can be larger (up to 10%), depending on water quality and feed quality, stocked fish, level of management, etc. The raceway system is generally constructed of a number of rectangular concrete cells (generally 2-3 per pond) parallel to each other ( Fig. 13.3 ).

The open raceway ponds (channel length: 25 m; width: 2 m; total surface area: 100 m 2; depth: 0.25 m) were equipped with paddlewheels ensuring mixing (flow speed at the water surface: 0.2 m s − 1 ). The pond was lined with a PVC (or similar) liner as done during the construction of low-cost agricultural ponds.

develop a raceway system pow-ered by air-lift pumps that could float in existing ponds and have some of the advantages of tradi-tional raceways such as: 1) higher fish densities, 2) better water qual-ity, 3) waste collection, 4) precise disease treatment, and 5) better control over feeding, grading, har-vest, etc. In a pond, this system
