A history of the velodrome and its riders 1928: The Laykold Cup, donated by New Zealand Laykold Limited, was first presented to the winner of a five mile handicap race held at the Petone Rec. 1940-1067: In 1940 the asphalt track in Petone was closed and by 1948 the Wellington cycling clubs and the City council were still looking at parks to build a new banked track.

To be a PNP Club Champion, you must be a PNP Club Member at the time of racing. Additionally you must be registered in the OPEN Men/Women category - unless you are still in college. To be awarded a College Sport Wellington medal, you must be enrolled in a Wellington Region college. This covers Wellington, Hutt Valley and Kapiti colleges.
