Without further ado. 1. Lift the front of your car or pull up on some ramps. 2. Grab a thin, straight screwdriver and 12 mm and 13 mm sockets with wrench. 3. Start popping out the plastic retaining pins that hold the factory lower engine cover. The thin screw driver should be adequate for this task. There are about 20 of these guys.

I have a skid plate on my 2006 outback. It is nice because it protects the engine and part of the transmission. It is a pain when changing the oil, the filter (if it is below your engine), and other things. Should only take about 5 -10 minutes to drop and another 5-10mins to install. You might need help from other people, when doing so.

Only show this user. Cutting the sides and attaching to the plate is my plan. For now I have the OEM cover removed and I have installed the OEM sides PN:56410AG09B & 56410AG10A, $40 each. If you are not sure you want to cut your big OEM cover you might get the side covers to cut and attach. 2009 Outback 3.0R.
