Raceway Park started out in 1950 as a race track for cars. In 1959 the track became a half-miler for thoroughbreds. In 1962 harness racing was added to the mix. The track was expanded to five-eights of a mile in 1965. Thoroughbred racing went away in 1972, leaving the track solely to the standardbreds. The original thoroughbred track had no chutes.

Raceway Park is a harness racing facility located in Toledo, Ohio. Its typical racing season starts in March and ends in December. Raceway Park was initially constructed in 1949 as a flat ¼-mile auto racing oval. Motor racing events were held there for more than a decade before the track was converted to a harness racing facility in 1959.

In 1962 harness racing was added and three years later the track was expanded from 1/2-mile to 5/8-mile. Fires are always a large threat at racetracks and Raceway Park was no exception. The first serious blaze was on August 28, 1976 ( link) when four barns burned, killing 40 horses and causing $250,000 in damage.

The track opened in 1949 for Thoroughbred flat racing. In 1953 a harness racing season was added. After 1985, only Standardbred harness racing events were run here until 2014, when Thoroughbred racing was revived. The track was sold and closed in April 2018, leaving Northville Downs as the only horse racing track in Michigan. It closed in 2019.
