In 1979, the 924 was introduced into racing, running initially in North America with the SCCA, where in 1980 it won the first of several National crowns. Also that year, a turbocharged version was run at Le Mans with some success. Subsequently, turbo 924 GTR's would win in the Trans-Am and IMSA, claiming, multiple GTU class title for itself.

The Porsche 924 is a sports car produced by Audi in Neckarsulm, Germany, on behalf of Porsche from 1976 until 1988. A two-door, 2+2 coupé, the 924 replaced the 912E and 914 as the company's entry-level model.
