The Race for Research was founded in honor of Michele Plachy-Rubin. Michele was diagnosed with brain cancer in December 1996. Her friends and family organized the first race in 1997 to raise money for cancer research efforts in Colorado. Michele participated in the first race with her young son but unfortunately lost her fight with cancer in 1998.
