Aviation gas really isn't apples-to-apples when compared to race gas. It isn't the same R+M/2 method of rating octane as our automotive gasoline. There's only two fuels you should be interested in running, which are 100LL and 115/145. Presently, the most common avgas is 100LL which is 100 octane low lead.

It DOES NOT have the same octane rating as 100 octane race gas. And it has a much lower REID VAPOR rating. Also, the whole "dry" thing is completely misunderstood. The "dry" in Avgas means it is certified to contain much less water, which will freeze. Any glycol in the fuel is to inhibit any water it does contain from freezing.

Aviation will be the last place you will see inconsistencies, in fuels, oils, etc. that are certified. Things are kept tight regulation wise, you cant just pull to the shoulder if your engine dies. I ran 100LL in my 850 ultra, at 185 pounds of static compression at 8300 rpm.
