In July of 1894 a French magazine organized a trial to publicise the motorcar. It was not a race. Some months later a few competitors from this event would organize a race, the fastest car would be the winner. Motor racing was born. In that same year it would spur on other countries and individuals to stage similar events in their own backyards.

frank spittleMemberfrom indian land s.c. I have done research on this subject and have come to the conclusion that the first Super Stock class was contested in 1956 at Cordova Ill. That is not a declaration but my opinion. Arnie Beswick raced a '56 Dodge D500 there. He did not win but another D500 did.

Joined the HAMB in August 0f 2005 just got my 40 ford on the road in 2004 I had mopars prior to getting the 40. My first old car was a 41 ford business coupe when I was 16 back in 1962 after that it was mostly muscle cars until I bought my 40 project in 2002. 4tford, Jul 27, 2020. SHARE POST #15.

HAMB Old Farts' Club H.A.M.B. Chapel Richard Petty and David Pearson both went drag racing in 1964 to boycott Bill Frances ban of the hemi which he deemed an unfair advantage,,, In 1964 Richard Petty had an accident and I think it was an 8 year old boy was killed and several other spectators were injured,,

Gas Coupe/Sedans were classified by weighing the car and dividing the weight by the engine displacement. In the beginning, an "A"-class car was 0-9 pounds per cubic inch, a "B" was 9-11, a "C" was 11, and "D" Gas was 13 and up. The following year, an "E" class was added for cars with over 14.6 pounds per cubic inch.

Total cost of the entire car was $600 starting with a $50 car found behind a gas station with a blown motor. Record at the time was 15.24 held by Dave Boertman.
