The 1.82 gear set is not suitable for most drag racing applications as its power limit is no more than ~ 550 HP engines in even lightweight cars. Why? Same case, only changed the planetary & the other parts to go to the lighter 6 cyl planetary w 1.98 gear set. The 1.96 is built on the 1.76 style carrier and quite a bit heavier than the 1.98 setup.

    my car is 2450# with a sbc 434, powerglide, 5000 stall, rear is 4.56 tires are 32.5, runs 9.30's @ 145. I have a stock 1.76 first gear and they make 1.64, 1.65, 1.69, 1.76, 1.80 & 1.96.     The long tailshaft Powerglide (27-9/16 overall) is within a 1/4-inch in length to the 200-4R (27-11/16), however, there were three different Powerglide lengths so it is best to check it first.
