Planar Mapping Just as the spherical mapping took 3D points from the surface of a sphere and mapped them onto a 2D surface, the planar mapping will map 3D points from the surface of a plane. However, since a plane is already basically a 2D surface, you may guess (correctly!) that there's not much for such a mapping to do.

Ray Tracing: Texture Mapping

Algorithm: The easiest way to texture map onto a sphere is by defining v to be the latitude of the point and u to be the longitude of the point on the sphere. This way, the texture image will be "wrapped" around the sphere, much as a rectangular world map is wrapped around a globe. Figure 8. Mapping a rectangular world map onto a globe Figure 9.

It could be that the texture is just washed out because the light is so bright and so close. Notice how in the solid red case, there doesn't seem to be any gradation around the sphere. The red looks like it's saturated. Your u,v mapping looks right, but there could be a mistake there.

I have set up a simple ray tracing in C++. I wanted to add the texture mapping to the sphere. It basically just map the texture from a PPM file to the sphere. Below are my code for the part. //Call shaderay from trace ray function // index_of_winning_object = index of scene object array // point = intersection point Color shadeRay (int index_of ...

Consider the scene below: an orthographic viewer looking down the –z-axis views a textured square. The image size and square size are the same and they are initially aligned to one another as shown. The pixel spacing on the image plane and the texel spacing on the square are ∆pix and ∆tex, respectively. A B C D α γ β N
textures - Difference between reflection mapping and ...
https://gamedev.stackexchange.com/questions/167458/difference-between-reflection-mapping-and-raytracing
Ray-tracing generally refers to techniques that perform repeated ray-casts with the reflections of a ray through a scene. Changes in the scene will always be present in reflections generated by ray-tracing. Reflection mapping is effectively the ray tracing method with two optimizations: Only one reflection is performed.
