The Rye House track began life in the distant (and unrecorded past) as a horse race trotting track. It was first used for Dirt Track racing in 1934, and then more regularly in 1935. The circuit was 440 yards (402 metres) in length and was situated very approximately where the last greyhound racing track existed until a few years ago.

The Rye House Kart circuit is on the eastern side of Hoddesdon, just off the A10. Hoddesdon itself is signposted as a turning off the A10. Follow the signs for Hoddesdon when leaving the roundabout at the top of the slip round off the A10. At the next roundabout, turn left followed by the right at the next roundabout.

Rye House passed into stock car history in 2000 when the lease was sold by Spedeworth to a speedway promoter who shaled over the tarmac track then later flattened it a little later and rebuilt it all specifically to speedway requirements. The original 50s track was actually alongside the current one and is now under the Kart track.
