The circuit’s origins lie with the enthusiasm of members of the Scarborough and District Motor Club, who began searching for a venue to hold road racing in the mid-1930s. Inspired by the classic road races taking place elsewhere, not least the Isle of Man, their first idea was for a 14-mile course at Seamer Moor, close to the seaside resort.

This year’s Spring Cup at the Oliver’s Mount circuit in Scarborough has been cancelled as work at the track will not be completed in time. Some older buildings at the Yorkshire venue had to be demolished on safety grounds but time is running out, so organisers have taken a decision to bin the season opener. A statement reads:

Organisers and officials changed the format of racing at the circuit and ran a full day of practice on the Friday to give the riders the much needed track time after the unexpected hiatus caused by the pandemic and restrictions.

The races are organised by the Auto 66 club which attracts big name riders from the road racing scene. The circuit itself is 2.43 miles (3.91 km) in length and is not much more than a service road around Oliver's Mount. It is known as a technical and twisty track that requires a great deal of skill and bravery to tackle.
