It’s been nearly seven years since works first began at Seymour. In 2015-16 the Seymour track was reconstructed with a predominantly sand based profile. Unfortunately, this reconstruction left the Seymour track with regular issues around stability and consistency. The $6 million redevelopment drew criticism from trainers and jockeys alike.

Racing at Seymour is on track to return later this year. The Club has not raced since July 2020 after an unsuccessful renovation saw the track ripped up and replaced at the start of 2021. Replacing the sand base with a more traditional loam-based profile, the new Kikuyu grass was laid last April and has since been given time to consolidate.
