Enclosure Bracing Tips and tricks regarding enclosure bracing. A well braced enclosure. This is what a properly braced ported enclosure for a single driver would look like. Note the liberal use of wood in the construction of the baffle itself (where the subwoofer actually mounts–here on the right side of the box just below the slot-port).

A panel brace is one that is a piece of wood (panel) that fits tightly into the box and would act like a separator if it weren't for the holes cut in it. Here's what came up when I googled internal subwoofer bracing. There are both types there. http://images.google.ca/images?svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&q=internal+subwoofer+bracing&btnG=Search …

Re: When is bracing a subwoofer box necessary? Bracing, particularly a matrix style bracing is nearly always recommended to prevent unwanted coloration from panel resonances. When I construct subwoofers, particularly if they may be used with an 80hz crossover and above, I ensure that I have no more than 7" unbraced in any direction from any …

The deal with bracing for a subwoofer is stiffness AND panel resonant frequency. You need a stiff enough panel that the motion of the panel due to the internal pressure fluctuations is very small. You also need to make the panel stiff enough for its mass that you achieve a resonant frequency well above the low-pass crossover frequence for the driver.

Best way to brace a box? - Steve Meade Designs

Bracing needs (for subs) will depend on the amount of energy you are dealing with and the shape of the box, in your case if you are using something like SA-12s you won't need any additional bracing, the port in the middle itself will act as very effective bracing. It's an aero port so that won't work. Link to comment.

Is my subwoofer box bracing adequate? | AVS Forum

My research seems to indicate an approximate spacing of 12" between bracing. Because there is already a lot of internals in this box between the ports and the center channel cavity, I only added 1 vertical and 2 horizontal braces behind the subwoofer, and a couple of small dow rods/braces on the opposite side of the box.

Loudspeaker Cabinet Bracing: A Detailed Look on Do's …

The cabinet is almost invariably the largest component of a loudspeaker system, which makes the design crucial for two reasons. First, the significant surface area of the cabinet can contribute larger amplitude displacements, making it more difficult to control the audibility. Second, stiffness and the natural frequencies of vibration are ...

Just slab on thick heavy damping does something but i.m.h.o. CLD would be a better choice. I wouldn't be surprised if it lowered the resonances of the outer enclosure. Look at CLD damping on metal sheets used in cars. It lowers the resonant frequency and damps ringing. Provided that the bracing and enclosure are separated by the flexible glue.
