One of my 125s is a really old tank too. I believe oceanic as well, and there is no additional bracing besides the perimeter frame on top and bottom. Its in my basement, so I'm not too worried, but like 12 volt man said the thing seems sturdier than my new one.

Buy a glass tops for a 48" tank that require a center brace. Then buy a piece of glass and create my own centerbrace. Replace the top frame. Find a new frame for sale that has the centerbrace, remove the one I have now and attached the new one.

I wouldn't risk it, especially if it already had a brace. Although the glass is tempered the manufacturer most likely put a center brace on because during testing it showed that it needed a brace.
