RAF Thornaby was used as a motor racing circuit after it closed to flying. The D Type Jaguar on the front cover, TKF 9, owned at the time by Alan Ensoll, is still racing. The motor racing never lasted long and the Air Ministry finally sold the airfield to Thornaby-on-Tees Borough Council in 1962.
