Welcome to ThunderCat Racing UK get involved Back in the 80's a slightly not normal South African decided to strap an outboard motor to a small rubber boat (known then as a pencil boat) and race them down the rapids.. a few years later and we have evolved with purpose built 4m inflatable catamarans coupled with a 50hp motor.

Sarah was introduced to ThunderCat Racing in 2015 by Steve Wallace. Sarah has a fabulous bubbly nature, full of energy and is always happy to help out at any time and where ever needed. During 2015 Sarah trained and qualified as a RYA lap counter. We look forward to Sarah also assiting us during the 2016 season.

The lighter the motor, the better the handling. The optimum setup is a 40 HP outboard, like the mercury 3 cylinders of 1996-2005 vintage, ported to produce upwards of 90 HP. Despite the modernization of engine technology, the carbureted 2 strokes of yesteryear are still the best fit for thundercat racing.

Often raced in the surf, thundercats are great for rough water conditions because of their large flotation sponsons and open transoms. Any water that makes it into the vessel, quickly runs out the back through the transom. Although it can look dangerous, thundercats are actually safer than most vessels on the water.
