Any tricks for tracing bad neutral? - hvac-talk.com

I have chased bad neutral connections several times. The quick and easy method I found is to check across a connection with a volt meter. Any voltage showing up indicates a high resistance connection. I go from the actual wire on each side of the connection. Especially up on the utility weather head connection, often the cause.
Checking for a bad neutral - Electrician Talk

If I suspect a loose or bad neutral I turn off the main immediately. Then i start at the meter and work my way back to the POCO connections and back towards the main after that if needed. Any damage that might happen while you are there is hopefully avoided by opening the main. If something happens to fry while you are there you are getting the blame so I like to …
How to test for a bad neutral wire - Quora
https://www.quora.com/How-do-you-test-for-a-bad-neutral-wire
Best way is to take your voltage meter(digital meter with 2 leads on it) and test across HOT to NEUTRAL with the power ON.. you should read anywhere from 110 to 125 volts ,.. if NOT, test from HOT to ground,(the metal box or the bare ground wires inside the box if it is plastic).. you should get 110 to 125 nominally, if your first reading across HOT AND NEUTRAL are anything …
neutral wire is hot, How to track down the problem area?

So theoratically, all we need to do is tight black wire to black wire , white wire to white wire together then the wiring job is done. when we un-tight the wirenut in the box, to our surprise, one of the white wire is hot ( there are 4 white wire tighted together) even with the circuit break is off. I suspect this hot white wire has been mixed ...
Broken Neutrals and Bad Splices - Electrical Online
https://www.electrical-online.com/broken-neutrals-and-bad-splices/
Pull on each conductor individually to see if you can pull them out of the wire nut. An electrical splice should be as mechanically strong and as electrically sound as the original conductor, so pulling on two sides of a splice should be no easier to pull apart than it would be to break the wire in two by pulling on it.

In the last two steps of the original problem, the readings taken are correct; i.e., that what they should be: Hot wire on the breaker to the neutral bar = 120v; hot wire on the breaker to the LIFTED neutral wire = 0v. If the voltage from the hot wire to the lifted neutral wire is above 0 volts, there is a ground fault on the lifted neutral wire.

Locating the suspected loose neutral problem - All About …

If you have an off-center neutral, every load in the house would have to, by coincidence, be connected to the same leg of the 240 volt service, or, the problem is clear back to where the 240V is created. Carnac the Magician says: Move the transformer. The real cause will be discovered during that work.
How to Find a Bad Connection in House Wiring - Hunker

Inspect the fixture first. Unscrew the cover plate of an outlet with a screwdriver and look at the terminals with a flashlight. If you see a loose wire, reconnect it after first turning off the breaker that controls the circuit. If a light won't go on, try replacing the bulb. Remove the switch cover and look for loose wiring.
Using a Circuit Tracer to Detect a Broken Electrical Wire
https://ask-the-electrician.com/using-a-circuit-tracer-to-detect-a-broken-electrical-wire/electrical-repair/
When a wire is shorted out or is broken inside a wall and you need to locate it then a electric circuit tracer should help to find the wire. The price range for a circuit tracer does vary, however there are some fine Stud Sensors that have a built in feature that allows live circuits to be detected inside the wall behind sheet rock.
