Hi RachelRalph. In their instructions from the census authorities both in 1841 and 1851, enumerators were told only to record the number of people they found not living in houses. They were supposed to record these numbers on a page at the start of each enumeration district book headed 'Number of people in barns, sheds, tents and the open air'.
