There is no "better" or "inferior". Only DIFFERENT. I think we can talk about characteristics of trestle vs post, without saying either is "better." Trestles give a slightly brighter, stiffer, more resistant to feedback, sound. Tone posts are slightly warmer, softer/looser.... The key seems to be, how loud do you play/how much gain do you use?

Trestle bracing is a special extra. Most Gretsch hollow-body guitars and basses don’t have it. Rather, most Gretsch hollow-body instruments use a simpler internal support method called sound-post bracing, in which a vertical wooden dowel located directly under the bridge connects the top of the guitar to the back.

Anything made before 2003 is pre-fender. If you look inside the f-hole and see a couple thin solitar posts, then you don't have the tressle bracing. The tressle bracing is more vintage correct and seems to be more desireable amongst gretsch fans, but I say it's debatable wether or not it's "better".

ML bracing is sort of a half-trestle. Similar to trestles but without the upper legs. In effect, it is dual sound posts with stiffeners along part of the parallel braces. So from hollow to solid there is. Sort of non-linear continuum: 1. Hollow with bracing 2. Hollow, bracing, soundpost - MANY sub-variations on a soundpost 3. ML bracing 4. Trestle 5. Waffle 6.

Trestle bracing on the underside of a Gretsch guitar top. What is trestle bracing, and what advantages does it offer on Gretsch guitars that feature it? Is it a modern development or a vintage design? Good questions. The short answer to all of the above is that trestle bracing is a distinctive bracing

"ML" Bracing. Co-developed by legends of the modern Gretsch legacy, Masao Terada and Mike Lewis, “ML” Bracing is essentially half of our Trestle Bracing – with the two ‘feet’ under the bridge area but not by the neck block. This results in a ‘best of both worlds’ scenario, give the huge, open tone of Parallel Bracing, combined with the feedback-busting, sustain inducing ...
