Ukulele bracing. While I wait for the thickness sander (ship date pushed back again) I’m digging into other aspects of uke building…. I can’t find anything definitive on the bracing of the back and soundboards. I’ve found patterns and photos but nothing about the how and why of it. The book that started this whole adventure is almost ...

Tommy has been experimenting with various design elements, one of which is “asymmetrical lattice” bracing on tenor, concert, and even soprano sized ukes. I should add that this is not exactly new territory for him. Tommy has been using variations of this bracing system on his concert classical and flamenco guitars for 10+ years with ...

The braces ( Fig. 5) are then glued on using a go-bar deck: two wooden boards held together by a steel rod with fiberglass kite rods as clamps ( Fig. 6 ). This step must be done pretty quickly so that I have time to scrape glue squeeze-out before it dries.

    38. Jun 28, 2014. #9. interesting video for all makers. These guitars cost about $30000, most tops about .040" thick. Braces i think are either balsa or sitka with carbon fiber top and bottom and horizontal at the lower bout edges for strength (visible at 36 seconds).

Bracewood and pre-sawn braces in a variety of tonewood species.

Many consider a guitar’s bracing patterns to be key to the instrument's tone and longevity. It is important to select the proper tonewood for the instrument you are working on. Normally, the guitar is braced with the same wood that is used for the top. So, use Sitka Spruce to brace a Sitka top, German Spruce to brace a German top, and so on.

Brace Wood - windyhillstringworks

There seems to be a lot of folklore around wood used for instrument bracing. I have Sitka Spruce, Red (Appalachian) Spruce, Hemlock and New England Spruce. Red Spruce seems to be favored right now because it has a high modulus, (Stiffness/ Strength to weight ratio), but Sitka is very close and works fine for most instruments.

bracing a tenor top | Ukulele Underground Forum

Depends on the piece of wood. For lattice bracing the top is 0.8 to 0.9 mm thick. And just to really confuse you, I've got an Adirondack spruce top for a tenor right now that is just so stiff I'm considering to go with just a bridge patch. I favour very thin and tall braces as compared to wide short ones. Has everything to do with the cube rule.
