240 is on the high side of OK. My BMW runs at 245 degrees all day long but it is designed for that temp. The oil cooler thermostat seems to kick in at that temp. My 302 runs at 220-230 when pushed hard, but 240 is not bad. A good oil will not degrade at that temp. In fact the oil itself is OK at much higher temperatures, especially synthetics.

VQ motor: keep quality oil at or below 280, maintain pressure, and you won't have issues. I would not expect a VQ run at 300 to last. Weak link will be [oil shear at the] bearings.
