Easier on the older 29ers with high bottom brackets. With the low bottom brackets the seat is lower so to get the bars lower still you have to slam the stem. It is possible to get your bars low but then you have your shifters or levers slamming your top tube when you go down.

By comparison, these XC tires might seem really light, and they are, but there used to be sub-400g semi-slick race tires back when we rode 26″ wheels with tubes. And they sucked. Anything under 600g for a 29er XC tire is going to have compromises somewhere, usually in how much protection they offer against punctures and cuts.

I'll say it...If you aren't willing to spend 5K you shouldn't be asking for the "lightest fastest full suspension 29er (xc racing)". The GF Superfly 100 would fit that bill the best. The Specialized Epic (or marathon) 29er is rather heavy for the intended purpose and you'll still be over 5k for a final build (new).
