Hey I'm new to the forum and new to xs650's. I recently got a 82 xs650 and while I was installing new lights I happen to grab the rear tire and the swing arm moved. It looks like the bushing are bad. I know bronze bushing are on mikes xs for it and was wondering is it something that needs to be replaced ASAP or can it wait till next winter?

When you install one of these, the usual procedure is to torque the pivot bolt until it is in the specified range and so that the arm very slowly falls under it's own weight. That may not happen exactly at 47 ft/lbs (probably won't). It will probably require a bit more or less than that.

If you just slid your forks up 2 inchs in the tree's and didn't do any internal mods, be carefull. Full stroke is just short of a inch below the bottom triple clamp. When they made the racing swingarms, at fist they didn't brace them at all, although they were made more like an 1100 arm, with the dogbone areas made from tubes. When they decided that bracing was needed, they added the braces that you see in old photos and they also braced the hell out of the area around the shock with sheet aluminum.
